Throughout Persepolis, Marjane normally speaks to the reader through a voice over. However, at this point once she isolates herself into the basement, she speaks directly to the reader using a speech bubble. At this point of the story, she is starting to  become more rebellious as she knows a lot more. This change in style can represent the need for her to express her thoughts out loud.
