Although music wasn’t completely banned from the country, like many other forms of entertainment, it seems as though women and girls weren’t allowed to listen to music at all. Marji says that she “got off pretty easy” because the guardians didn’t find her tapes, which makes it rather clear that women and girls weren’t allowed to have the tapes, or even wear the clothes they felt comfortable in.
